Our Mediterranean Sojourn

A two-year assignment to the Admiral's staff aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Little Rock, flagship of the Sixth Fleet, as a member of the Sixth Fleet Show Band (saxophone and clarinet) was a dream come true. However, sharing that dream with my fiancé, Susan, had to wait a few months until my next paygrade promotion. Then I flew home, we had a beautiful wedding, shortly after which Sue accompanied me back to my home port of Gaeta, Italy, a small town scenically tucked into a bay about 50 miles south of Rome and slightly closer north of Naples. And to top it off, we were fortunate to find an apartment in a new building one block from the beach.
